Property details:
2005-built 4 bedroom detached house with separate garage, constructed to insulation and energy efficiency standards of the day.
What changes have been made?
3.85 kW PV system generating 3,295 kWh per year was installed in 2011. Wundafloor zoned underfloor heating was fitted in September 2020. Associated work included floor levelling, ceramic floor tiling, and replacing skirting boards added an estimated £6,500 to the cost. In November 2020, a 12kW Samsung Air Source Heat Pump generating roughly 12,370 kWh per year was installed. This included a hot water cylinder and radiator replacements. Also during the same month, a Clearview log burner was installed for occasional and emergency use. An electric induction hob with associated wiring was installed in December 2020 to eliminate gas consumption. A 7kW Zappi electric vehicle (EV) charger was installed in our garage in January 2023 including wiring, to make it easier for us to divert PV energy into our EV and to enable fast overnight charging. To eliminate petrol consumption, we purchased an MG5 EV. A 2000 litre rainwater harvesting tank was fitted in September 2023 to reduce mains water use in the garden and reduce outflow to mains drainage. Lastly, the front and back doors were replaced with upgraded uPVC double glazed doors in March 2024.
What have been the benefits to you and your home?
The home is heated more evenly than before and kept at a more constant temperature. There is no gas burnt within the building so condensation and air pollution are reduced, giving cleaner and fresher air. The induction hob is very powerful, controllable and clean. EV is reliable, good to drive and very cheap to run. Rainwater is better for garden plants than treated mains water.
