Property details

1930s semi-detached brick property with cavity walls and tiled roof.

What changes have been made?

Additions to my home are as follows; cavity fill insulation, loft insulation top up, underfloor insulation, wood stove with air supply from under floor, green roof on workshop, 2.8kW solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on southeast facing roof and an air source heat pimp that was fitted in April 2021.

What have been the approximate energy savings?

Between 2007 and 2014, gas use was reduced by over 4,000kWh, gas has since gone completely. Total carbon emissions stand at 0 tonnes a year allowing for our Good Energy 100% renewable supply. I expect to be able to export a lot of electricity to the grid.

What have been the benefits to you and your home?

The Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating went up from an F to a C. The most noticeable change is that the house stays warm when the heating is switched off. The green roof on the workshop helps to insulate and soundproof the workshop whilst looking much nicer than a normal roof, giving me a pleasant view from the office. It also provides a habitat, including neighboring cats.
