What changes have been made?

We have a renovated brick building with solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, hempcrete walls, hemp batt insulation and sheepswool with lime hemp plasters and natural clay paints. We also built the new Straw Lodge which is sat on car tyre foundations and has external lime render and internal clay render.

Why did you make these changes?

We have a focus at Fordhall to limit our environmental impact where possible and to conserve energy in our activities. This means choosing materials with low embodied carbon, materials that can act as a carbon sink, those that limit our fossil fuel use and creating buildings which are healthy and happy places for us to work and enjoy.
