Property details
Elegant semi-detached solid brick property built in 1910 renovated with extensive retrofitting and extensions.
What changes have been made?
New solid floor with underfloor heating (wet system) and maximum insulation given existing footings, internal woodfibre insulation and lime plaster to all external walls, a mix of double and triple glazed timber windows, refurbished front door, parge coat/airtightness membrane/tapes throughout existing building including ceilings, insulated loft between and under rafters on pitched ceiling areas, 2 new extensions, new heating system via Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR), electric vehicle (EV) charging, 3.6kW solar photovoltaic (PV) panel array with 5kW battery installed to side and rear extensions. We chose not to install the solar PV panels on the front facing southwest facade for aesthetic reasons.
What have been the approximate energy savings?
Our heating and hot water demand has significantly reduced following extensions and retrofitting. Before any work started, our demand was 14,000kWh.
What have been the benefits to you and your home?
Our home is now very comfortable as we are able to control humidity and our home is much warmer and less draughty.
