Property details:

Unique Walter Segal self-build timber-framed detached house, built in 1990 and upgraded since.

What changes have been made?

We replaced our windows and doors to more efficient ones. We added extra insulation wherever possible to the loft, voids and under the floor. Insulation fitted under the house is 100mm sheep wool. More recently, a Midea 8kW air source heat pump (ASHP) was fitted. As our home is on top of a slope on stilts, we managed to have the ASHP installed under the house.

What have been the approximate energy savings?

Looking at our bills, there has been a consistent reduction in energy usage year on year since 2019. Comparing February – August 2019 to the same period in 2023 has shown that electricity usage has dropped 1,074kWh whilst gas usage has dropped 2,741kWh.

What have been the benefits to you and your home?

The interior temperature has been a lot more stable and is consistent even when it is cold outside.
